A short overview of Sun screen filters that you may find in your sunscreen in Bangladesh

The active ingredients in sunscreens that help prevent UV rays from getting through to the skin by absorb or reflect the Uv rays  are called filters.We can categories the sun screen filter into three, based on the blocking of UVA and UVB,
Type 1 :
Block UVA only.
Avobenzone, Diethylamino  Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Disodium  Phenyl,  Dibenzimidazole Tetrasulfonate. 
Type 2 :
Provide protection against UVB. 
Homosalate, Octisalate, Octinoxate, Octocrylene, Ensulizole, Octyl Triazone, Ethylhexyl  Triazone.
Type 3 :
Provide Protection against both UVA and UVB.
Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol, Tris-Biphenyl Triazine, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Oxybenzone. 
Here following some most common Sun screen filter you will find in the sunscreen  in Bangladesh market , 
1. Zinc Oxide : It’s a mineral base filter.  It offers full spectrum (UVA + UVB) protection all by itself, which is why there are many people that consider this the end all be all best filter ever. One little bit problem as It  Can leave a white cast in your skin. 
2. Titanium Dioxide (TiO2): TiO2 has better protection against UVB, but doesn’t do as well in the long UVA range. Can leave a white cast. When it comes to TiO2, we mean really REALLY white cast.
3. Octinoxate: Its an chemical filter , and good blocker of  UVB. But main problem is its not that photo-stable. Before buy the sunscreen , make sure the formulation of sun screen is claim as a good photo stable or not.
4. Homosalate: It’s a weak UVB light absorber. Usually ts been used as a higher concentration in the sunscreen . Its relatively safe for the skin , as no skin irritation has been reported.
5. Tinosorb S: A great broadspectrum chemical filer. Safe for skin. 
6. Avobenzone: Its most popular filter and you may find it almost every sun screen formulation in the world.  Weak UVA blocker and relatively low  photostable but improve its ability with the help of other filters.
7. Octocrylene: Often seen in a pair with avobenzone, and its. Very good sunscreen filters but not great enough alone. Its safe for the skin, but it may show allergic reaction to the babies skin.
8. Mexoryl XL : It has a very good ability to block both UBA and UVB. But annoying part is its not approved in US market yet. 
9. Octyl Salicylate : It absorbs UVB rays from the sun. It is an ester formed by the condensation of a salicylic acid with 2-ethylhexanol. It has a good properties of water resistance. It may cause irritation your skin. 
10. Bemotrizinol : It’s a chemical substance  and able to absorb the full spectrum of both UVA and UVB rays. It also has the added advantage of being photostable so is often formulated with less photostable. Its relatively non-toxic and rarely causes skin irritation.
11. Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid: Its also known as  Ensulizole,  providing only minimal UVA protection as well as it has a very bad experience with water resistance issue as its a water-soluble ingredient.
12. Octisalate (Ethylhexyl salicylate): Its  a light UVB absorber. May cause  potential irritation to your skin.
13. Oxybenzone : Oxybenzone belongs to the class of aromatic ketones known as benzophenones. It has a bad reputation for creating Acne and Contact Dermatitis.
Some General Info: 
Sunscreen are formulated on the aim to not  penetrate into your skin, It should remain on the skin top layer and protect you. As most of the chemical and mineral filter may cause irritation to your skin as well as it will lose its stability after a certain period of time, You should reapply your sun screen in every 3 to 4 hour interval, if your plan to stay long time in the outside. Don’t forget to clean your  face properly with any good cleanser after came back to your home. 
Using Sun screen filter in sunscreen to protect your skin from the UV rays. Its better to use the sunscreen in the sun to avoid sunburn as well as skin cancer. Before buying. Sunscreen You should consider its sunscreen filter along with its formulation type , Photostability , water resistance issue and using as much less number of filter. Because more use of filter is more disposition of filter in your skin to block your natural skin pore and it may increase the chance of acne formation. 
And One most important note, Try to avoid  sunscreen with parabens. I will discuss about using parabens in my other blog.
